Niki Jabbour’s Veggie Garden Remix Book Giveaway

I feel fortunate to be part of Niki Jabbour’s Veggie Garden Remix: 224 New Plants to Shake Up Your Garden and Add Variety, Flavor, and Fun book launch. For this post, I did receive a copy of the book to read, along with a copy to give away to one of my readers. Yay!

If I’m remembering correctly, this is Niki’s third book, and when asked I was thrilled to help her out. Niki is as kind as she comes across on the page and on her radio show, and I consider her one of my favorite garden writer friends.

This book builds upon her two previous books, The Year-Round Vegetable Gardener: How to Grow Your Own Food 365 Days a Year, No Matter Where You Live and Groundbreaking Food Gardens: 73 Plans That Will Change the Way You Grow Your Garden. This time, we’re going into the garden with Niki to try new vegetables you might not normally grow.

We gardeners love to try something new every year, don’t we? And, this book isn’t just for established gardeners either. Niki’s advice can be used to learn to garden from the ground, or raised bed up.

On pages 68-69, I turned to see one of my favorite plants listed. Can you guess which one?

The daylily! Yes, daylilies are edible although I like the flowers too much to eat them myself.

Hemerocallis 'Concorde Nelson', a new one for my garden.
Hemerocallis ‘Concorde Nelson.’ Would you like to eat a daylily? You can.

I also like how she lists certain familiar plants like eggplant and then lists other, more unique varieties you might also like because of similar flavors or textures. As she wrote, Asian eggplants are less bitter too. They are my favorite varieties of eggplant.

Little Fingers eggplant. They are very, very small.
‘Little Fingers’ eggplant in my garden. They were very, very small.

I even found a few new veggies I’d like to grow like ‘Sugar Magnolia’ sugar snap peas, or ‘Green Luobo’ radish.

Gardening is fun, and new veggies are really fun.

Now, for the giveaway deets. This giveaway runs through Midnight Thursday, February 15, 2018. I’ll announce the winner on Friday, February 16, 2018, in the afternoon. The winner will be chosen randomly by a random number generator. Just comment below to enter.

If you can’t wait for the contest, then go buy Niki’s book now. You’ll love it!

UPDATE: We have a winner! Sarah Lawler is our winner! I’ve notified Sarah to receive her new book. Thanks everyone for playing!

I have Niki’s Year-Round Gardening book and it’s wonderful! I love the work you do, Dee! I always get excited when I see a comment or like from you on my Instagram account. You make me homesick for Oklahoma — my family lives (and farms) in Perry, just up the road from you!

I sure miss Oklahoma gardening and especially, hearing about it from your blog. I listen to lots of podcasts and recently heard this author speak. She always intrigues me.
So, send the book to me and I will appreciate it in my southern Oregon veggie garden.

I always plant my tried and true varieties of veggies and flowers but also always try new varieties each year. It is so interesting to learn about new vegetables, flowers and growing techniques. I have enjoyed reading your blog, please keep writing. The great thing about gardening/farming, it’s a life long learning process and thats addictive in a good way.

Looking forward to spring planting. My husband and I like to try new veggies and found out that Moringa will grow in Ohio but die with the first frost. 🙂 Great for tea and great in salads. Next experiment… Finger Limes. So come on spring.
