I think the end of the year is a good time to celebrate and do a giveaway. While I wish I could give you a greenhouse, I don’t have that kind of sponsorship. Actually, I don’t have any sponsorship on this little blog. I think the Pioneer Woman might have that kind of clout though. Let’s ask her. Just kidding!
I do, however, have wonderful friends, who write great books. When I finally met Ruth Kassinger, the author of Paradise Under Glass: An Amateur Creates a Conservatory Garden at the Garden Bloggers Conference, I felt like we were already friends. The book chronicles a changing and challenging time in Ruth’s life. It shows how she healed through garden therapy by creating a conservatory in her house. She would be the first to tell you she didn’t have a green thumb, but through trial and error–like all of us–she learned to garden. I read this book in 2011, and finally meeting her was a dream. Ruth is as kind as the words that flow from her ivory pages.
Here’s the good part. She gave me a copy of the book to give away on my blog. So, here you go.
To enter the giveaway, just comment below. I’ll do a random number generator to discover our winner. Since I’m doing this giveaway myself, and it’s a book, not a plant, anyone can enter from anywhere. I promise to mail the book to you. Perhaps, not the fastest way possible, but I’ll get it there.
The contest starts now and continues into next year! We’ll end it next week on Wednesday, January 8 at 11:59 p.m.
If you tweet, Pin it, share it on Google+, Facebook it, or any other type of sharing, just comment again and tell me where you did it. That will get you an additional entry.
Happy New Year friends! Hope you win.
UPDATE: Bev E. is our winner. I’ve already contacted Bev for her address and to send the book on its way. Thanks y’all for playing!
I need more knowledge!
Count me in! This sounds like a wonderful adventure.
I’m having a greenhouse built this spring. I should pick up the book as a resource.
Would love to win this book..looks interesting..
If you end up giving away a greenhouse at some point, please let me know. In the meanwhile, please put my name in the hat for the book, and happy new year to you.
Waiting for another 9 inches of snow to fall here, I would love to be reading about creating a conservatory. Happy New Year to you and thanks for this giveaway!
I love gardening related books with a personal story – gardening memoirs as I call them! Thank you for the opportunity to win this one! Sounds like my kind of read.
I usually just skim through garden books, but a book with a personal story involved is one I would read more closely–sounds interesting. I’d love to win a greenhouse, but at least a book doesn’t have to be put together:)
Wishing you all in the best in this New Year, Dee!
I skim through gardening books, but when there’s a story involved I read much more closely–this one sounds so interesting. I’d love to win a greenhouse, but at least a book doesn’t have to be put together:)
Wishing you all the best in this New Year, Dee!

Thanks again and HAPPY 2014!!
This looks so interesting! I’m an avid book reader and I would love to read this!
Thanks for the chance!
Would love to learn more about conservatories. Looks like a wonderful book. Thanks for sharing.
I firmly believe in the power of healing through gardening. Gardening got me through the 15 years of my daughter’s illness and subsequent death. I would love to read this book.
On a side note, in reference to your greenhouse – and not to be outdone – we invested in one of the little plastic, tent-like popup greenhouses for my few house-type plants. Putting it together was nothing short of a miracle and almost grounds for a divorce.
Ann, I’m sorry about your daughter’s illness. My mom had a car accident 24 years ago and has endured terrible pain and suffering from it. She is good right now, but one never knows. The last part made me laugh. Bill and I have tackled several projects where I thought divorce might be imminent. I know that greenhouse you speak of. It’s a dandy as my grandmother would say. Thanks for reaching out today.~~Dee
Love gardening and love reading your blog. A greenhouse is in my
future!
Oh, I hope so Linda. Mine gives me great pleasure. Even a sunroom can be a conservatory if you want it to be.
I shared on FB.
A conservatory in her house? I’m fascinated. Thanks and happy new year, Dee!
Happy New Year to you too Jenny!
I always want to peek into the greenhouses of others to see what’s growing in there, how their conservatory is furnished and how plants are displayed.
Me too.
Looks like a fab book…
I have posted to our Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/SimplyLoveGardening
That one looks like a winner. I do want a greenhouse as well, though.
I think you need one Layanee.
Thanks for the opportunity to win the book. I resolve to have a greener thumb this year!!
Looks like a great read!

Seriously? She was at the Garden Bloggers’ Conference, and I didn’t meet her? Well, boo! I would love to read this book. Heavens know, after my greenhouse disaster last spring—when it lost power, overheated, and killed all 5,000 plants–I obviously need all of the help I can get! 😉 Happy New Year, Dee!

Looks like a good book. I have a sun room… If I just tried a little harder, I think it might be worthy of the name “conservatory”.
My garden is my therapy, exercise, venting, playing, imagining time! It always soothes my soul and creates peace. Always looking for more and varied ideas – Would love the book!
Pinned it also!
Shared on Facebook. Would love to win this book.
So enjoyed your videos on YouTube. Especially the day lilies.

Dee, I just read the description and reviews on amazon and I would absolutely love to read this! So pick me! Pick me!
Happy New Year’s friend!!
Lovely! I’d like to win a copy of course, but based on your description I will buy one myself. What a great book idea… Gardening is the best therapy, and a self taught gardener is a woman after my own heart.
Most of all, Dee, Happy new Year! I hope you are resting and enjoying your accomplishments and the love of your family today. xoxoxoxo
Can’t wait to catch up and have that coffee!
Looks very inviting….hope I win to enjoy.
A conservatory! In my dreams, and that’s what books are good at providing. Would love to have this one. 🙂
Sounds like my kind of reading! Would love it!
this sounds like a great read! Happy New Year! 🙂
This book sounds awesome and maybe a conservatory would give my plants a chance to avoid the grasshoppers!
I’m throwing my hat in.
Although my “greenhouse” has usually been visqueen stretched over a part of the porch, it serves the purpose well. Would love a copy of this book. Thanks and Happy 2014!
Looks like good reading for the long cold winter days to get me ready for spring. Maybe I will win it….hopefully!
I love books and anything having to do with growing plants, flowers, trees…you get the idea. Have a fantastic 2014 and safe New Years.
It sounds like a great read! I would love to win it!
Love to read! But this looks like a neat picture book, too!
This sounds like a book I would truly enjoy. Thanks for the opportunity. Happy New Year.
I would love to turn a part of my house into a conservatory where alot of plants would live. Where only soothing music would play and a comfortable chair with my name on it would be at my beck and call. I could go there at the end of the day with a nice cup of hot tea. I have a lot of stress in my life right now as I am taking care of my mom who has dementia and other health challenges.
How generous, but I’d rather win your book. Just kidding, I would love to win. I can buy your’s and if I’m lucky might get it autographed. I think it’s almost spring. Happy New Year.
Ooh. I’d love a conservatory. Wonder how I could add one onto my house. Surely it could go where the kitchen is now. It’s not like I’m much of a cook after all. And Happy New Year 🙂
I started really gardening after I lost my mom to cancer. Gardening is so healing; I am sure this book will resonate with me. Happy New Year!
I wish you could give me a greenhouse, too! I have wanted one for such a long time. Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Would love to have a greenhouse…but books always help my gardening efforts….speakers such as you provide great tips. Hopefully this will be the correct # of your replies that is THE WINNER…..Happy New Year!
