I caught these two Northern Cardinals, male and female, posing two days ago. They make beautiful “love birds” on a cold and snowy day.

By the way, the Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab sponsor a backyard bird count each year in February. In winter, I often find ten or twelve Cardinals sitting on the arbor near my bronze, five-tier No-No feeder. Over a year ago, the makers of the No-No feeders sent me one for review, and I wrote about it on a Lowe’s post some time ago. Cardinals do love black oil sunflower seed. However, we use a feed similar to this Songbird and Cardinal Preferred Blend Bird Food
In the spring, these fantastic males will stake their own territory, and things won’t be so friendly. Male Cardinals can be quite fierce. If you’ve ever seen one crashing into a window over and over you know what I mean.
We have had a couple male Cardinals flitting around and who knows what else, but what a flash of red!!

I love seeing the cardinals in my yard. The males stand out on overcast wintry days.
That is one bird that must really get around. We have a pair of cardinals frequenting our feeder as well. I should go visit the Cornell site to learn if some of them migrate and some do not, or if none do so. Interesting that you and I both have them but Leslie does not.

I also love cardinals, especially in winter. Those two on top look like they are refusing to speak to each other after an argument.
Beautiful photos! My favorite thing to see is a male cardinal feeding his bride. Such a sweet gesture. They do make lovely “love birds” on a cold day.

Love the cardinals! At my office, I saw a male getting a seed out of the feeder and taking it to the female. What a romantic! Happy Valentine’s Day!

I do love Cardinals. When I was a middle schooler we moved from urban St Louis to Tampa, FL and I fell head over heals in love with them. I am thrilled they visit my garden. Beautiful photo of the love birds. Happy Valentine’s Day to you Dee.
