A collage for Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day hosted each month by Carol of May Dreams Garden.  From left to right, top row:  Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Arnold Promise,’ Helleborus ‘Blue Lady,’ Ilex x mondo ‘Little Rascal’ with a lichen covered rock, and a blue pansy; bottom row and middle:  the first crocus growing in the lawn, Helloborus ‘Red Lady’, a sprout and an orange viola.

Just the beginning, a taste of what’s to come.

Oh there’s yet another witch hazel in bloom! I’m still hoping for mine. (See latest blog post.) I planted ‘Red Lady’ hellebore last year, but so far no flower buds on any of my hellebores. Some I’ve had for at least three years.

Yes, Carol, those are hardy for your zone. So get some already! 😉

Dee, I’m not sure how I’ve been missing your blog for so long, but I’m here now! 🙂

    Hi Kylee, I’m glad you’re here too.~~Dee

Yes, yes, that yellow crocus is very familiar. I have one or two in a small vase in the kitchen window that seems to be standing up. We never tire of this endless cycle of the reemergence of spring, do we, Dee?

Whether you’re giving us intimate portraits of individual flowers for GBBD, or standing at a distance to show us how the landscape works with your pretty house, reading your posts is a pleasure, Dee. What a beautiful place you’ve made!

Aren’t those first tastes of spring the sweetest? Seems the colors are so vivid this time of year.

That’s a beautiful collage. It’s wonderful that you have so many things already blooming! I’ve seen nary a bud down here…

I love them all, especially the witch hazel. I was just thinking; the one spring bulb I never hear talk about is crown frittileria. Perhaps they are out of fashion.

Lovely, Dee:) I really like the Red Lady hellebore; I need more of those. I have just one plant in my garden. Your collage is lovely! I did a collage too. It’s fun on Picasa, isn’t? And pretty easy, too.
    Have a wonderful day:)

Great collage. All the photos of hellebores have inspired me to try some next season. Anything that blooms really early is always most welcome.

I just googled your little holly (Little Rascal). What kind of conditions are you growing it in. It looks like a really nice low grower. Next month’s GBBD will be really different for all us bloggers as I expect to see lots of blooms!

Jean´s last blog post..GB Bloom Day, Feb 2009

    Hi Jean,

I have three growing in partial sun and one grows in morning sun. I think they can take full sun though. I love them. They stay pretty all winter here, and in the spring, they will have red growth. I saw some growing at my church in a very large container with another larger shrub. They look great in that application too.~~Dee

Or for us in Michigan, a pre-preview (which is kind of like getting pre-engaged!). Which is to say, I have to wait another 4-6 weeks for our preview of spring! And am I the only one who thinks lichen-covered rocks are adorable?! 🙂
