White Christmases are highly overrated

A little, light, powdered-sugar dusting would be okay, but fourteen inches is a record breaker.  I still haven’t seen my mom for Christmas (hope to see her tomorrow).  My husband is still grading the streets (at our church parking lot right now), and I have three, bored, housebound kids (except the youngest who escaped the house with me to explore).  Hope you like our little slide show below.

It really is pretty.

It really is beautiful! I understand the frustrations but what a joyous sight. Next time, please send a little down our way!

Pretty? Pretty inconvenient I imagine, especially at Christmas. I am glad you can see the beauty in it.

Oh my goodness Dee, this is beautiful. Here I am just happy to have a GREEN Christmas and New Year. Our thirsty golden hills have finally been blessed with welcome rains.

Sending you love and best New Year wishes,

    Sharon

Beautiful, but yes, what a drag not to have your DH home for Xmas or get to see your family. I hope it melts, every snowflake, and soon!

LOL, I agree, 14 inches is a bit much but it was good to see that Prancer and Bear were enjoying it very much. My little Tara loves the snow too but unfortunately we have run out of the white stuff and have rain now, loads of it.

Loved the slide show Dee, thanks!

Thank you, Miss YE! It was a bit much, but they’ve had a blast.~~Dee

Your photos are beautiful, Dee–you certainly did get a white Christmas! It started snowing here on Christmas Day and hasn’t let up since, but I know we haven’t gotten nearly as much as you. I hope that you can celebrate a belated Christmas with your family. And my husband can commiserate with yours–he’s been on the night shift driving a snowplow since Christmas night. He’d be happy if it didn’t snow at all in 2010!

Rose, you’re poor hubby! I feel your pain & HH feels his. It’s been a long three days, but I think things are getting better all the time. I did get to do prezzies with my family yesterday. Lots of fun.~~Dee

The only snow I like is the first one. After that, they’re all just a pain in the you-know-what! (I’ve gotten to be an old Scrooge after 21 winters here in the northeast.)

On the bright side, it doesn’t prevent me from seeing the beauty of Nature.

I feel the same way TC. The first one is magical.~~Dee

    Dee,

I came by to say that I hope your holidays were wonderful. I can see that they were snowy! *grin*

I wish you a bright and beautiful year ahead, with plenty of time to linger in the garden.

    warm regards,
    Aisling

Aisling, where you live, you know all about snow, and I think you’re better prepared for fourteen inches. My holidays were great. Hope yours were too.~~Dee

I knew Tulsa had gotten clobbered because of a couple of musicians I follow who are from there; also a friend in KC MO reported to me about the mess they had. We get weather like this regularly, so it’s no biggie to us, but it’s interesting to see how other areas respond to a big snow.
Hope it didn’t affect any of your holiday travel plans, Dee, and that it was a good day.

Jodi, we’re never prepared. The street folks do better than when I was a teen (and we had a year of snow), but most of the time, we only get an inch or two a year. This time it was so bad because we got freezing rain first and then blowing snow. Still, the weather report says we’ll hit 40F today so yippee, goodbye snow until next time.~~Dee

Don’t worry Dee, the rain will come and wash the snow away. We had a good fifteen inches last weekend and this morning….torrential rain. Now, just patches of white. Sorry it spoiled your Christmas plans. It does look lovely though. Peace and joy to you and your family this holiday season.

Layanee, I think you’re right. Wow, fifteen inches. I can’t imagine. We still had a beautiful Christmas, and since we Catholics continue to celebrate Christmas for awhile we should be good.~~Dee

It is beautiful. We haven’t had snow like that in a long time.
Hi Philip, we hadn’t either. 🙂 Hope you had a Merry Christmas.~~Dee

    Dee,

Well I did enjoy your slide show. The frozen garden photos are lovely — but Bear’s is the loveliest of all. Joy exudes from her stance in the snow.

I hope you will have some good family time with your Mom soon.

    Janell

Hi Janell, we sure enjoyed our time with Mom yesterday. Yes, the garden in winter can be beautiful too.~~Dee

Love your title, and you are sooooooo right. I was snowed in on our hill for three days. Fortunately our road was plowed just before Christmas eve. We’re expecting more this coming week. Yuck!!

Thank you Betty Jo. I hope your don’t get too much more snow. Yuck indeed.~~Dee

I, too, enjoyed it while it lasted, but I’m thankful to live in southeastern Oklahoma where it seldom lasts more than a day. I am definitely NOT a snow bunny!

    Me neither Mary.~~Dee

Wow, 14″ is a lot of snow at one time. Some of those pictures you could use for your Christmas card next year. Beautiful scenery. The dog looks like he is looking for Christmas that is buried in the snow. Be safe.

Lisa, I think he was looking for a varmint.~~Dee

Well it looks lovely and very festive, but I do remember from March 30 when we got 26″, that is not the case!! Stay warm and I hope you had a very Merry Christmas.

Don’t look, Sarah, but I think you’re getting the brunt of it this week. Keep warm.~~Dee

So nice to meet you this year, Dee. Best to you in the coming New Year.

We have a warm 40 degrees on Christmas which melted all the snow . We now have 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground.

Fourteen inches is incredible in Oklahoma isn’t it ? I hope it warms up soon and melts it off .

    Thanks for the slide show.

Carolyn, it was lovely to finally meet you too this year, and I loved your garden. Yes, fourteen inches in incredible and a record breaker.~~Dee

Beautiful photographs! Y’all certainly got an impressive white Christmas, and here’s hoping you’ll be able to get out of the house soon.

Thanks Meredith, I hope we don’t get snow again for a long time, but I hear we’re supposed to get an inch or two on Tuesday night. We’ll see.~~Dee

Hi Dee! I wanted to wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! I hope you are enjoying the snow a little bit anyway. I’m glad to have been able to meet you this year and hope to see you again in 2010. Thanks for sponsoring me for the GWA; I appreciate it! 🙂

I always enjoy your writings and photography and look forward to reading about your adventures to come. *hugs*

Merry Christmas to you too Kylee and thanks for the kind words.~~Dee

Your slide show was delightful! My niece and nephew from Alabama recently moved to Tulsa and got quite a shock getting two feet of snow for their first Oklahoma snowfall!

I like the snow only if I don’t have to venture out in it!

Robin, I bet they were shocked. Tell them, it isn’t normal.~~Dee

    Dee,
You are right… it really IS pretty. Not sure how I’d like it spoiling my travel plans but can’t beat the photo opps. So clean, pure, and crisp looking. I imagine the kids loved it. We had to have our a/c on yesterday because our day started out muggy in the seventies. Crazy Christmas weather. Today we’re enjoying 58 degrees and drier air… yay!
Happy Christmas wishes to you and your family… looking forward to your garden in the coming season.

I won’t be dreaming of a White Christmas for a long time. I have to say I can’t get out to the after Christmas sales so the snow is saving me a little money.

That looks a lot like here (except for the chickens). It’s lovely. I’m glad at least somebody is enjoying it with you. Hopefully, it won’t last long.

That’s quite a winter wonderland. It looks like Prancer and Bear had a good time checking it all out. Hopefully, your world starts to return to “normal” soon and you can get out and about!
