Spring garden means irises.

Dear Spring Garden, I love you

Dear Spring Garden, I love you. You are having a banner spring. I took a few photos and recorded you for posterity because heavy rain is supposed to fall this weekend.

[Click on the photos in the galleries to enlarge them.]

Pinks irises light up my spring garden this year.
These pink irises were from my mother-in-law’s garden. I’ve had them since I married Bill. They were being smothered in the lower garden, and they are much happier in the kitchen border.
Does the spring garden get any prettier?
Irises and Center Glow ninebark and Peaches and Cream Japanese maple. Does the spring garden get any prettier?
Another dark purple beauty. The beard is almost dark blue. I like dark irises a lot.
The spring garden is full of irises this year.
I like irises, but it never fails. We have a giant rainstorm every time they bloom. Well, this year, I took photos for posterity beforehand.
Spring garden means irises.
Dark and handsome iris. That’s not its name, but it’s what I call him.

We need the rain. We always need rain even if irises and peonies don’t love heavy rain. Roses aren’t too fond of it either.

A pink and white peony for the spring garden.
A pink and white peony for the spring garden that I bought as park of a pink six pack from Peony’s Envy years ago. It has finally bulked up and is performing well. I don’t know the variety. It doesn’t really matter.
There’s that unnamed pink and white peony again.
‘Bridal Shower’ peony is so pretty like a snow cone.
‘Bowl of Beauty’ peony.

So, before the wind gets out of hand, and torrential rains fall, we should enjoy this evening of peace in the spring garden. Let’s take a stroll, shall we?

I planted 'Roald Dahl' in the spring garden three years ago. My children truly enjoyed his books.
I planted this ‘Roald Dahl’ rose in the spring garden three years ago. My children truly enjoyed his books.
OSO Easy Italian Ice rose is so pretty in the spring garden.
OSO Easy Italian Ice rose was a trial plant from Proven Winners. It’s in its fifth or sixth year.
Olivia Rose Austin in the tiered borders speaks of the spring garden.
‘Olivia Rose Austin’ is one of the most beautiful English roses I grow. Basically foolproof. You do need to feed her though. Roses love rich soil.
‘Imogen’ rose is really showing off this spring.

Love is in the spring air.

Queen of Holland
Queen of Holland clematis.
The lower garden beds have never looked better. I had some help this year, and it shows.
Through the looking arbor.
‘Carefree Beauty’ and ‘Softee’ roses as I look up toward the house
Byzantine gladiolus and ‘Lady of Shalott ‘rose in the back garden.
Amsonia tabernaemontana is not my favorite of the bluestars. I like the threadleaf better, but it is really showing off right now.
Bumblebee on ‘Dropmore Scarlet ‘coral honeysuckle.
‘Emperor I’ and ‘Peaches and Cream’ Japanese maples, ‘Center Glow’ ninebark and ‘Desdemona’ rose in the garage border and in the kitchen border.

Bees are buzzing. Butterflies are flitting about. All is well in their little world. Take a cue from them and go outside and hang out with plants for a while. It will make you feel better. I know it does for me.

Have a beautiful week everyone.
