Early prolific straightneck squash

Although you may have surmised  from my letters with Carol and Mary Ann, it wasn’t all bad news in my vegetable garden this year.  The lovely Willi Galloway, West Coast Editor at Organic Gardening magazine gave me the opportunity to do a guest post/garden tour over at digginfood, her excellent garden and foodie blog.  If you’d like to see it, head on over and while you’re there, check out her marinated sheep’s milk feta cheese recipe.

If only I could eat dairy, I’d be looking for a sheep to milk.

Just kidding.

    Hi Dee,
I mentioned the inspirational dirt in your veggie garden in my last post. I’ll probably always remember your ‘chocolate cake’ soil as I continue to dig out bucket after bucket of rocks, and add ever more amendments.

Have I told you that I really like the new blog layout? ’cause I do…

Anyway, re the dairy thing: a woman I knew who made goat cheese told me that lactose intolerant people can usually drink goat milk with no ill effect. I didn’t believe her, but I gave it a try. Lo and behold, felt just fine. Still don’t like milk, though. Cheese, yes. Milk, no.

We should do letters again next season, especially because you are moving your garden and starting a new one!

I’ll head on over and check out your link.

Loved the previous post. I’ve always wanted chickens but keeping livestock in northern Illinois is miserable 6 months out of the year. Your photos are beautiful. Lots of color variations. It will be interesting to see them grown with their adult feathers.

Weekly letters, guest post. You have been busy besides keeping this blog. Your squash looks great.

Love the photo in your header, Dee. What a beautiful blog Digginfood is.

That squash reminds me of the summers of my youth when we would fry them up fresh from the garden. Nothing like homegrown veggies.

    Hey Dee,
That is a fine looking squash. I’ve got some growing in my fall garden. It’s one of the veggies the armadillos haven’t destroyed digging for earthworms in the dead of night. ACK! Heading over to diggin food to see what’s going on. Thanks.
